Betty Irene Groesbeck obituary, 1943-2023

Betty Irene Groesbeck
Dec. 10, 1943 - March 3, 2023
Betty Irene Groesbeck (McRobert) passed peacefully in her sleep Friday, March 3, 2023, after acute illness. She touched many hearts throughout her life, and will be greatly missed.
Betty was born in Gales Creek to Melvin and Patricia McRobert Dec. 10, 1943 while Melvin was serving our country in Europe. She was inspired at a very young age to become a teacher – and she pursued her dream through Sunset High School, Portland State University, and finally Oregon State University.
Betty married her high school sweetheart and main competitor for 1st chair clarinet, Michael F. Kidby, June 12, 1965. They eventually added son Brian and daughter Melissa to their family before their paths diverged.
Betty taught gradeschool in Albany for a short time before returning to teach in Hillsboro for the rest of her 25 year career. There, she was introduced to her life's love, Robert "Larry" Groesbeck – born to Robert and Alberta Groesbeck Aug. 9, 1938 - by Larry's daughter Shelly, one of her 6th grade students at the time. Little did anyone know the fun, full, and wonderfully loving life that would spring from their first parent-teacher conference.
Betty and Larry were married Sept. 3, 1976 and shared many adventures together outside the classroom until his passing in 2011. Their shared love for the Oregon coast and traveling extended to their circle of family and friends, with whom they shared countless beach house weekends and RV getaways, several road trips to Alaska and across the States, and many fond memories. Broadway musicals and reading were constants throughout Betty's life – she made several trips to New York to attend plays in person, volunteered at the Washington County library, and always had her latest book club assignment on-hand. Betty's was a life very well-lived.
Betty is survived by her son, Brian; daughters, Melissa, Shelly, and LaJean; grandchildren, Justin, Kevin, Sarah, Grayson, Dillon, Nolan, and Olivia; and great-grandson, Copeland.
A celebration of Betty's life and reception will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, March 25, 2023, at Orenco Presbyterian Church - 6420 N.E. Oelrich St., Hillsboro, OR 97124. Fond memories of Betty and church donations appreciated.

I was so sorry to learn about Betty.  Not only was she my gradeschool classmate, she was also my neighbor on 187th St in Aloha when we were growing up.  What a sweet & lovely lady!  Love & prayers to the family.

I was so sorry to know of Betty's passing.  I was blessed by her friendshisp at SHS, and tho we weren't in touch most of our adulthood, I will still miss Betty's Spirit on this earth.  What a sweet and kind person she has been to so many people, and so many people whose lives she has touched and made such a positive difference.  Blessings to you, Betty, and I send my love through the "ethers" to find you.  My sympathy to her family and loved ones.
