Carl (John) Hector

Carl (John) Hector

John Carl Hector was born Feb. 22, 1944, in Burbank, CA, and lived in Albany before moving to Beaverton in 1955.  He graduated from Sunset High School and Portland State University and served in the Oregon National Guard.

In 1969 a friend introduced John to the woman he would later marry in 1971, Judy Wilson.  They had no children.  Judy was in love at first sight and knew that no matter what, John would be trustworthy and she could count on anything he said.  This proved to be very true through the years.  John worked as a design draftsman for over 20 years for a company that was sold and sold and ended up as the Harris Group.  They do work primarily for pulp and paper companies; designing factories, etc.

In 1994, John and Judy puchased a "get away" place on Bald Peak and John thought it was heaven.  He was always planting more and more trees there.  He and Judy spent as much time as possible relaxing there.

John was diagnosed with a brain tumor and no matter what treatment they used, it wouldn't shrink.  He lived 7 months after being diagnosed and although he wanted very much to live to celebrate his 35th wedding anniversary, he died just 4 days short of it.

Servivors include his wife; mother, Geraldine; and sister, Julieanne M. Bradshaw.

I remember Johnny first at West Sylvan - a happy guy with a ready smile.  He played in the band in high school - trumpet?  He was friendly, interested in others, and I remember him smiling most of all.

John, we had a lot of good times (Sweet Georgia Brown in physics class, closing out bars....).  Lock and load and keep on drumming.

I remember Johnny's shy smile! He loved music and played the clarinet during pep and concert band and the alto sax during dance band! He had a very sweet spirit and will be remembered!
