De Groot, Joni Ann; 70 Sept. 01, 1944-Feb. 01, 2015. Joni passed away peacefully Feb. 1, 2015, in her Vancouver home with her loving husband, Kristian, by her side and surrounded by loving family after a courageous battle with cancer. Joni was born Sept. 1, 1944, in Portland to Lawrence and Ella Neitling. She was the second of four children. She graduated from Sunset High School in 1962, and went on to an associate degree in dental technology. She worked as a dental technician for Kaiser Dentistry for 31 years until her retirement in 2010. She is survived by the love of her life of over 38 years, husband, Kris; son, Todd de Groot; sister, Janice Neitling; brother, Larry Neitling; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. A Cat- holic rosary will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 6, 2015, followed by a funeral Mass at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, 17010 N.E. Ninth St., Vancouver. Remembrances may go to Kaiser Hospice Care.

Sorry to hear of Joan's passing. While I didn't know her as closely as some classmates, our paths crossed on occasion and she seemed like always a nice person. From what I read, Joan had a good life, a great family, and she enjoyed what she did. It can't get much better than that. My thoughts and prayers go out to her family during this difficult time, softened only by the many happy memories of her by friends, old classmates, and family.
