Sheryl "Sherry" Martin Bateman
October 4, 1944 - March 4, 2025
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Sherry Oma Bateman, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, who peacefully left us on March 4, 2025, at the age of 80. Born on October 4, 1944, in Portland, OR, Sherry Bateman lived a life full of passion, dedication, and love.
She is survived by her children, Shawn Fitzgerald, Brendan Fitzgerald, Crystal (and Chris) Heck, and Stephanie Garcia; her sister, Lynda Drumm; her brother Ralph (and Betty) Martin, and her 8grandchildren, Liam Fitzgerald, Hunter Prida, Hannah Fitzgerald, Cooper Prida, Silas Schlip, Berkeley Heck, Declan Schlip, and Ryker Schlip.
A woman of many talents, Sherry Bateman wore many hats throughout her remarkable life. In her early years, she was employed as a fashion model, captivating all who she encountered with her elegance and grace. Her natural beauty, however, was just a small part of her story. She went on to serve as a dedicated legal secretary, and in her later years, served alongside her daughter as partial owner and bookkeeper of a retail business in the cannabis industry, where she leveraged her entrepreneurial spirit and deep belief in the healing power of the plant to help and support others.
Above all, Sherry Bateman will be remembered for the love and devotion she shared with her family. Her grandkids were the light of her life. She loved spending her time watching and supporting them in their extracurricular activities, helping them bake treats, and spoiling them with gifts on their birthdays, holidays, or just simply out of the blue. Her love for each of them was endless.
Sherry was a dynamic writer, had a passion for cooking, was a collector at heart and an adventurous soul, traveling and experiencing new cultures, cuisine, and immersing herself in the history and traditions of wherever she found herself. She was overcome with joy, spending her last few years traveling to various areas in Europe with her business partner and high school sweetheart, Dennis Sivers.
Her presence will be deeply missed, but her spirit will live on in the lives of her children, grandchildren, and all who were fortunate enough to know her.
A celebration of her life will be held on March 23, 2025, at 1:00PM at Skyline Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home, 4101 NW Skyline Blvd., Portland, where family and friends will gather to honor and remember her vibrant spirit.
