Lauren John Paulson

Lauren John Paulson

Thanks to Diane Shirley Owings I recently learned of Lauren Paulsen's death.  She sent me the following from Lauren's brother.

Lauren John Paulson ended his journey here on earth 12-5-2024 in the emergency room at Gold Beach, Oregon of natural causes related to Alzheimers.  He was born in Portland,  Oregon on October 12, 1944.  His father was John Harold Paulson and Mother was Eva Elenor Paulson (Quarnstrom) both of Aloha, Oregon.  He grew up with the neighborhood of kids on SW 174th in Aloha, Oregon.  He joined the 82nd Airborne in 1962 and jumped out of airplanes in the US for a couple years.  He then came back home to Aloha driving a black Corvette.   Lauren graduated from Sunset High School, University of Oregon and Lewis and Clark Law School.  Lauren was active in sports, loved to ski and had his own law office in Aloha for many years.

Lauren had many girlfriends but never married or had any children.  His only living blood relatives are his older brother, Carl, who lives in Lewiston, Idaho with his wife, Susan; his nephew Eric, who lives in Cheshire, Connecticut, and Eric’s son, Anders who also lives in Cheshire.

Lauren has been cremated and no service is planned.

As I put Lauren's obituary on our website I started thinking about him.  I did not really know him when we were at Sunset except to exchange a greeting as we passed in the hallways.  At one of our reunions, and I really don't remember which one, we started talking.  He was living in New Jersey and working in New York City as an attorney for a large insurance company.  He said he was pretty proud to be doing this as he was a "boy from the sticks."  In the fall that year I was invited to New Jersey to the wedding of a student I had taught in middle school.  I thought it would be fund to attend and asked a friend to go with me.  I contacted Lauren and asked if he would be interested in meeting us in either NJ or possibly NYC.  He was game.  We met him for dinner and he had invited some of his NY friends to meet his Oregon friends.  We all had a great time.  He told me then that he was in the finals for a position in a law office in NYC and was quite pumped.  I wasn't surprised, however, a few years later when he moved back to Oregon.  A very interesting fellow was Lauren Paulson!

Jean, and other Sunset alums...I am so happy to see the obit section here...to remember those we knew in high school.

Lauren was one of those fellas who appeared shy because he didn't talk much in class or around me anyway...but if called on or if he raised his hand to comment out came an intelligence that could be amazing. I wasn't surprised to hear of his success in life...the guy was smart! Now in our 80's decade (are all of us by now?) we can appreciate so much more. I like hearing about the later life of students I knew. Thanks for all of your comments when one departs. Mary Jardine McGlasson           (p.s Bruce McG, my Scot and I will have been married 60 years this December! We are amazed at how time has flown)
